U.S. Visual and Cultural Anthropologist Faye Ginsburg Talks at the Visual Culture Festival in Joensuu
The theme of the 6th Visual Culture Festival in Joensuu, September 27-October 1, was urban life, introducing 33 ethnographic, anthropological and documentary films from 25 countries. The films focused on various phenomena created by urban environment: subcultures, cultural diversity, conflict and conflict resolution, unity, and rural versus urban. Prof. Faye Ginsburg, Director of the Center for Media, Culture and History at New York University, introduced a film about New York by her student and gave a lecture about Black Screens and Cultural Citizenship to students and festival participants. Her visit was organized in cooperation with the Department Finnish and Cultural Research of the University of Joensuu and supported by the U.S. Embassy.
