Dr. Thomas F. Schaller, associate professor of political science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), spent a busy two days in Tampere and Helsinki last week discussing the state of play in the U.S. presidential campaign. He was fabulous, offering his Finnish audiences –from high school students in Tampere to parliamentary aides in Helsinki – a comprehensive analysis of the issues and topics having an impact on the Republican race.  “President Obama will get re-elected – although perhaps on a smaller margin that in 2008,” Schaller predicted.
