Finnish High School Students Learn About the U.S. Civil Rights Movement

Sampo High School students and teachers traveled from their home in Tampere, Finland to visit the American Resource Center in Helsinki. PAO Nicole Conn gave an enlightening and moving presentation on the history, phases, and development of the civil rights movement in America and the lead-up to the election of President Barack Obama. During the lively discussion after her presentation, the PAO answered questions about the impact of President Obama’s election and race relations in America today. The students asked excellent questions and made insightful comments. The visit to the American Resource Center included a tour of the library and an opportunity to learn about the services the Center offers.  The group concluded their visit and program on the Civil Rights Movement by watching a film on Barack Obama and his amazing journey to become President of the United States.
