High Tech Visit By Ambassador David Gross

Ambassador David Gross, United States Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy at the U.S. Department of State visited Finland to meet with government and industry officials, including Finnish Minister of Communications Suvi Lindén and Ambassador Yrjö Länsipuro, ICT and Information Society Policy Coordinator at the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.  Ambassador Gross also met with leading Finnish businesses, including F-Secure where he discussed cyber security with CEO Kimmo Alkio.  Ambassador Gross was particularly interested in Finland’s conversion to Digital Television; the United States will cut over to Digital Television on February 19, 2009.  Ambassador Gross received a briefing on Finland’s conversion experience from Tauno Äijälä from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and he met with officials from MTV3, one of Finland’s leading media companies.  Ambassador Gross also discussed the future of mobile communications and the Internet with officials from Nokia.  Ambassador Gross was accompanied on his visit to Finland by Richard Beaird, Senior Deputy United States Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy and Whitney Witteman, both from the U.S. Department of State.
