American Poet Ron Padgett in Finland
American Poet Ron Padgett visited Finland on August 24-25. He performed at “the Night of the Living Poets” organized by Nuoren Voiman Liitto in connection with the Helsinki Festival. He also held a poetry reading event at the America Resource Center where he read a selection of his poems followed by discussion with the members of the audience. Mr. Padgett shed light on the process and methods he uses for writing poems and he told the stories behind the poems he read. Audiences enjoyed his optimistic and playful poems and were charmed by his warm and open personality. His poems have recently been published in Finnish – “Kuinka Olla Täydellinen” – translated by Aki Salmela and published by ntamo. Mr. Padgett’s visit was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Helsinki.
