Ambassador Barrett speaks at the University of Turku organized American Voices Seminar

U.S. Ambassador Barbara Barrett spoke at the 16th American Voices Seminar, held at the University of Turku on October 18th 2008. The annual seminar is organized by the University of Turku’s North American Studies Program in cooperation with the Fulbright Center and is co-sponsored by the U.S. Embassy. The Ambassador opened the two-day seminar’s second day by speaking about her personal experiences in political campaigning. The audience was also eager to hear about the Ambassador’s experiences as the first female pilot landing an F-18 Hornet on an aircraft carrier. Other speakers at the seminar were current American Fulbright grantees in Finland who presented their personal perspective on different aspects of American society and culture. These American Voices ranged from historical accounts of the adventures of Spanish conquistadors to presentations on American photography, contemporary music composition, fiddling styles, communication culture, individualism, a library youth project and even lawyers in America. In addition, the education system and university life in the U.S. were presented. To see the program of the seminar in its entirety please follow the link below:
