Connie K. Duckworth, President and Chairman, of Arzu in Finland Nov. 27-30, 2007

Arzu, meaning hope in Dari, is a not-for-profit organization that provides sustainable income to Afghan women by sourcing and selling the rugs they weave. Currently employing over 700 Afghan women, Arzu helps weavers and their families break the cycle of poverty by providing them above market compensation and access to education and health care.
A highlight of Ms. Duckworth’s 3-day whirlwind visit in Finland was her meeting with members of the Human Rights Caucus of the Finnish parliament. She briefed the MPs on Arzu’s mission and programs, and presented an Arzu rug to the Caucus, given in deep appreciation of Finland’s contributions to security and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.
