NREL Presents US Car Battery Research to Finnish Audiences

Dr. Kandler Smith, Senior Engineer from the US Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Colorado presented the latest US developments in car battery technology to approximately 75 Finnish guests at the Helsinki University of Technology on December 2nd. Dr. Smith focused on the Obama administration’s policy to get one million electric vehicles on the road by 2015, as well as NREL’s research into increasing the life of a battery while reducing costs. In addition to his presentation, Dr. Smith met with key Finnish industry leaders interested in NREL’s work.   Ambassador Oreck joined Dr. Smith in a visit to Valmet Automotive (future manufacturers of the Norwegian Think Car) and Sandvik Industries (using hybrid designs in their mining equipment).
