Application Requirements
Passports
All visa applicants must present valid passports with their applications. In order to be a usable travel document for a US visa, a passport must be valid at the time of visa issuance and it must be not be defective.
Before you submit your passport with your visa application, please take a moment to check and see if it is in good condition. Many Finnish passports issued between 1999 and 2003 have a very stiff biographical pages, which tend to crack at the binding when heavily used. By regulation, US visas may not be placed into faulty travel documents. Thus, the consular section will not issue visas for passports with cracked biographical pages.
If you discover that your passport is broken, please contact your local police station to get a new passport. We will work with you to process your visa with this handicap, but please keep in mind that we cannot issue you a visa until you have submitted the new passport to our office.
