Non-Immigrant Visas
Foreign Media Visas
Representatives of the foreign press, radio, or film traveling to the US to pursue activities related to their profession must apply for I visas. To learn more about media, or I visas, please visit the Department of State’s website www.travel.state.gov.
In addition to the items required of all visa applicants, employees of the foreign media must present the following when applying for an I visa:
- A letter from the employer that gives the employee’s name, position held within the company, and purpose and length of stay in the United States
- A photocopy of his or her press card
Freelance journalists must present the documentation required for all visa applicants along with the following:
- A signed contract between the foreign organization and the journalist. The agreement must include a description of the work to be done; a timeframe for the work to be completed in the United States; and the financial agreement between the parties
- Examples of their most recent publications
- A photocopy of his or her press card
Please note that the Visa Waiver Program is NOT a substitute for a media, or I, visa, even if the intended stay in the US is less than 90-days.
