Passport Renewal (by mail)
You may obtain a new United States passport by mail using the attached application form DS-82, provided you meet all five of the following:
- You were at least 16 years old when your most recent passport was issued; and
- Your most recent passport was issued less than 15 years ago; and
- You are able to submit the passport with this application; and
- You are not requesting a change in the passport data, other than a name change due to marriage.
If you answered NO to any of the four statements above, STOP - You cannot use this form. You must apply on application form DS-11 by making a personal appearance at the consulate.

Please follow the instructions on this printed sheet. All information contained on the reverse of the application form DS-82 should be disregarded, except for the notices regarding federal tax law and the Privacy Act statement.
DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
1. Application Form
Please complete the attached application form DS-82, in ink.

You must sign your own form.
2. Submit Your Most Recently Issued Passport
When submitting a passport book with this form, please verify that the document was issued at age 16 or older in your current name (or see item #3 below) and issued within the past 15 years. If your U.S. passport is damaged, you must apply in person using form DS–11. Please contact for an appointment. Your current passport will be canceled and returned to you.
3. A Marriage Certificate or Court Order.
If the name you are currently using differs from the name on your most recent passport, you must submit a marriage certificate or court order showing the change of name. The name change document may be a certified copy or a complete and unaltered photocopy showing a seal and officiate/judge signature. All documents will be returned to you by mail. If you are unable to document your name change in this manner, you must apply on the DS–11 Application form by making a personal appearance at the consulate. Please note that an appointment is required.
4. Passport Photographs
Vending machine photographs are unacceptable.
Please send in two photographs. The photographs must be:
- identical;
- taken within the last six months;
- PRINTED ON HIGH QUALITY PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPER;
- untrimmed;
- no smaller than 5 x 5 centimeters (2 x 2 inches) (white space excluded);
- headsize from chin to top of head, minimum 25mm (1"), maximum 35mm (1-3/8");
- facing completely forward (head not turned) head must be uncovered;
- white background;
- in color;
- printed on OLMEC paper if digitized;
Applicants should be aware that the Embassy will reject any photographs that do not conform to U.S. passport standards (i.e., photo too small, headsize too small, not identical, out of focus, dark background).

6. Prepaid Envelope.
You must forward your documents by Registered mail and enclose a pre-paid (4,65 euros), registered mail delivery, self-addressed return envelope to ensure their safe return. Inquiries regarding registered Mail should be directed to your local Post Office.

What is the processing time?
Following its receipt at this office your application will be processed and mailed back to you within 10 workdays. Please allow a few extra days for mailing.
